Just Good Friends

My second book, Stories from Morris Pointe Volume:1 Just Good Friends, has been available for about a month now. I am pleased with the number of downloads on smashwords.com. I am working to get the second volume of the series completed so I can upload it to Smashwords before the end of April. My series that has its focus on the inhabitants of the fictional community of Morris Pointe is expanding. As in real life, the people of Morris Pointe have connections to others, far beyond their community. Find out what happens next with the couple that would be Just Good Friends. Watch for Stories from Morris Pointe Volume 2: A Wedding Surprise, coming in April, 2014.

The Ramblings of an Anxious Writer

At the time of my last post, I fully expected to publish within a few days. I thought the book was nearly complete and it was. It took another two weeks to finish the story and then I made a few revisions. I began looking for spelling and grammatical errors two weeks ago. At this point, I hope to upload to smashwords.com by this weekend. I'm ready for this one to be finished. I'm looking forward to finding out what happens to my next collection of characters.

An Introduction

I have always been a fan of books. At some point, just exactly when I don't remember, I knew I wanted to write one. Almost twenty years ago I began my first effort. I worked on it for several months and it grew to be over 300 pages before I couldn't figure out how to finish it. It has been over ten years since I last worked on it. There are probably at least a dozen other story ideas stored on my computer.

Over the years, I couldn't tell you how many times I have been watching something on television and accurately predicted what was going to happen. I would say to the wife, “I could write this stuff.”. Her response has always been, “Yes you could.” Now that I am retired and have the time I'm going to do it.

The options for publishing that exist today are far greater than they were for authors when I began working on my first project. The dilemma of not knowing what to do with my book after it was complete probably contributed to my lack of determination to finish it. I got discouraged just thinking about trying to market it to the big publishers myself and I had no idea where to look for an agent. Remember, in 1994, the Internet was in its infancy.

I currently have a project that is about 75% complete. I'm excited about it. I think it is good. I hope to complete a draft in the next two weeks. There will still be a lot of work to do after that. I have decided to go the route of independent publishing through an ebook distributor.

I've been reading about ebook marketing and have discovered some information that I hope will prove valuable to me in my efforts. I've learned that I need to create a brand. My Name. I've decided to write under a pen name. Why? I want my Readers, when I get them to be able to find me using search engines. I'm proud of the name my parents gave me, but there are far too many people that mispronounce it when they see it in print and misspell it when they know how to pronounce it. Therefore I have created a pen name that is simple to spell and hopefully easy to remember.
